HISTORY

President Roosevelt's National Recovery Act of 1935 established the North East Roofing, Siding and Insulation Contractors Association (NERSICA). By the mid-1960s, NERSICA no longer reflected the membership of the growing industry and its name was changed to the National Remodelers Association (NRA).

In 1956, President Eisenhower established Operation Home Improvement, a nationwide effort emphasizing the rehabilitation of existing housing rather than new construction. The National Home Improvement Council (N.H.I.C) emerged from this effort. The first chapter of the N.H.I.C. was located in Cleveland. The industry continued to grow and in 1982, the National Remodelers Association and the National Home Improvement Council joined to establish the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).

NARI was established as a "not for profit" trade association committed exclusively to the service of the professional remodeling industry, networking with industry peers, manufacturers, financial institutions and other craftsmen.

Today, Miami Valley NARI co-produces the largest local consumer home improvement show where new products are displayed. NARI also recognizes outstanding members through a national awards program as well as a local awards program for exceptional workmanship. Local and national newsletters keep members up-to-date on new trends and products and informs them of activities of the association. There are 61 NARI chapters nationwide. The national office is located in suburban Chicago, Illinois.
